Bridgwater MP Ashley Fox welcomed local businesses to his very own Business Breakfast Club event.
More than 30 businesses attended the event, which featured guest speaker Dr Rachel Burden, Somerset flood and coastal risk manager at the Environment Agency.
Ms Burden updated attendees on the £240 million Bridgwater Tidal Barrier (BTB) project, an infrastructure initiative aimed at providing long-term flood protection for Bridgwater and surrounding areas.
Once completed, the barrier will safeguard over 11,300 homes built before 2012, as well as all new homes constructed since then.
It will also protect around 1,500 local businesses and essential infrastructure, including schools, the hospital, and strategic transport links.
Mr Fox said: "The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier is a vital piece of infrastructure that will protect both homes and businesses, providing peace of mind for many in our community.
"It ensures that Bridgwater can continue to grow and prosper without the constant threat of flooding."
During the event, Mr Fox also addressed wider concerns from local business leaders, particularly around the upcoming government budget.
He said: "It’s crucial that we continue to support our local economy.
"While we don’t yet know what the budget will bring, there are concerns about potential new financial pressures on businesses.
"It’s vital that businesses, large and small, have the chance to thrive, and any additional burdens could seriously impact growth and opportunity here in the Bridgwater constituency."
The Business Club series will continue, providing a platform for local businesses to engage with Mr Fox and other key figures in the region.
