Ashley Fox, the Member of Parliament for Bridgwater & Burnham, has continued his efforts to address crime and anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater and illegal traveller encampments in Burnham. Recently, Fox met with Superintendent Lisa Simpson, Area Commander for Somerset, to discuss these pressing issues.
During the meeting, Ashley expressed his deep concerns about the levels of anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater and the illegal encampments in Burnham. He highlighted the significant impact anti-social behaviour is having on local businesses, noting that crime and disorder are leading to reduced footfall and creating an unwelcoming environment for traders and shoppers alike.
“I emphasised to Superintendent Simpson that the anti-social behaviour in our town centres must be addressed urgently,” Ashley stated. “Businesses are suffering, and the sense of safety that our residents and visitors once enjoyed is deteriorating. We need decisive action to make our streets safe and to support our local economy.”
Ashley also discussed the anxiety and uncertainty that illegal encampments generate within affected communities. He reiterated his full support for the police in taking decisive measures to deal with these matters effectively.
“Illegal encampments are causing significant distress and concern among residents,” Ashley said. “I support the police in taking swift and robust action to remove these encampments. The affected communities deserve a prompt and effective response.”
Recognising the importance of a coordinated approach, Ashley stressed the need for a strong partnership between the police and local authorities to achieve better results. "Effective collaboration is key to resolving these issues," he noted. "Authorities must work together to implement strategies that will instil order and security to our towns and communities."
Ashley Fox will continue to engage with the police and local authorities to ensure significant improvements in addressing these critical issues.
