Sir Ashley Fox, Member of Parliament for Bridgwater, recently visited Musgrove Willows, a Westonzoyland-based family business with a history in willow production.
During the visit, Ashley met with Jack Musgrove to discuss the company’s role in the industry. With roots dating back to 1928, Musgrove Willows has grown over 60 varieties of willow across 200 acres of Somerset farmland, continuing a legacy important to the county’s culture.
Mr Fox witnessed the processes involved in willow production, including traditional methods of sorting and grading that have been maintained through generations.
“I am pleased to see this business thriving in our constituency,” Ashley Fox stated. “Musgrove Willows is a vital part of Somerset’s heritage, showcasing our rich traditions, while making significant contributions to the local economy today.”
The willow industry plays a key role in Somerset’s identity, supporting local communities and fostering regional pride. The willow products produced at Musgrove Willows are supplied to customers around the world, highlighting the economic value of this craft.
Ashley Fox emphasised the need to recognise and promote this industry for its cultural and economic impact.
He added: “Musgrove Willows represents the best of Somerset, and I am committed to supporting initiatives that highlight the value this industry brings to our local economy and cultural landscape.”
