During a recent Prime Minister’s Questions, Ashley Fox, Member of Parliament for Bridgwater, highlighted the urgent need for action regarding the unsafe conditions at Haygrove School, one of Somerset’s top-performing schools.
In his question, Sir Ashley Fox emphasised the gravity of the situation: “Haygrove School is one of the top performing schools in Somerset. It is unfortunately one of those built by Caledonian Modular and now condemned as unsafe. Can the Prime Minister give Haygrove School and the other schools affected an assurance that they will be rebuilt and quickly because those pupils and staff are still working in porta cabins?”
Ashley's call for immediate action comes as students and staff at Haygrove School continue to operate from temporary portacabins due to the unsafe conditions of their original buildings. The Prime Minister responded by acknowledging the seriousness of the issue and assured that the Schools Minister will visit the school to discuss the matter in detail. The Department of Education is also exploring all available avenues for redress against those responsible for the current state of the school buildings.
Ashley Fox reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the necessary steps are taken swiftly. "Our children’s education and safety must come first," he asserted. "I will continue to push for a long term solution that benefits the children and families of Haygrove for years to come".
